The Valley is wide and flat, but the good driving is an hour out in every direction: lakes to the northeast, the Superstition Mountains to the east, and Sedona's red rocks two hours north. Our showroom in Old Town Scottsdale puts you about 9 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor and close to all of it.
Rentals here run by the day, from $499, and most cars are 50% off the second day or free on the third. That pricing rewards a two or three day booking: one day for a long drive, one for Scottsdale itself. Peak season runs October through May, when the weather is at its best and the event calendar is full, so those months need the most notice.

From the airport run to a full day in Sedona, in order of distance from Old Town.
Distances and times are approximate, measured from Old Town Scottsdale. Most rentals include a daily mileage allowance, and extra miles can be added when you book, which matters for Sedona.

Summit Road climbs through South Mountain Park to Dobbins Lookout and a view over the entire Valley. Go for sunset, and take the climb slowly. It's narrow and popular with cyclists.
North through the saguaros to two old desert towns with good places to stop for lunch. An easy half-day that never feels rushed.
Bush Highway follows the Salt River to Saguaro Lake, with wild horses by the water if you're lucky. Smooth pavement and long, open curves.
A quiet road that drops through the Tonto National Forest to the water. Less traffic than the closer lakes, which is the reason to go.
State Route 88 winds through the Superstition Mountains past Canyon Lake to Tortilla Flat. The pavement ends beyond Tortilla Flat, so turn around there. An exotic has no business on the dirt section.
I-17 north, then State Route 179 into the red rocks. It's a full day and roughly 250 miles round trip, so add miles when you book.

The Valley's peak season is packed into the first three months of the year. If your trip lines up with one of these, reserve early.
Late January
The collector-car auctions take over Scottsdale for more than a week, and the whole town is full of car people.
Early February
The best-attended tournament on the PGA Tour, at TPC Scottsdale. Hotels and rentals both fill up around it.
Late February through March
Fifteen MLB teams play across the Valley for a month, and visitors tend to stay a week or more.
March and fall
Two race weekends a year in Avondale, on the west side of the Valley.

Sedona is about 125 miles each way, so a round trip is roughly 250 miles, which may be more than your rental's daily allowance. Additional miles can be purchased at booking, so tell us you're planning Sedona and we'll set the rental up for it.
As early as you can. Late January through March is the busiest stretch of the year in Scottsdale, and the most requested cars are reserved first.
Modern exotics are built to cope with heat. The bigger question is your comfort: in summer, plan your drive for early morning or around sunset. Peak season here is October through May.
Anything unpaved. The best-known example is the Apache Trail, where the pavement ends past Tortilla Flat, so turn around there. Low cars and dirt roads don't mix.
